2019 GMC Sierra - New Design, Hybrid Version

The GMC Sierra (and the mechanically identical Silverado) were introduced back in 1999, and they have gone on to be one of the popular models for GMC, but then us Americans love a truck.
The next gen GMC Sierra promises much, and by the looks of the spy shots we’ve seen, it’s going to deliver on those promises.

The 2019 GMC Sierra has already been out testing in the cooler climes of Michigan, and now it’s out there being tested in sunny Southern California; despite being well camouflaged, we know it’s a GMC thanks to the 6-lug wheels and corner bumper steps – both GMC signatures.

2019 GMC Sierra Complete Redesign Expected

The 2019 GMC Sierra is going to get a complete redesign, this will be next generation rather than an evolution. First up is a lighter weight platform, rumor says that cast aluminum, high strength steel and even carbon fiber will play a part.

The redesign will incorporate new bumpers, grille, hood and LED lighting front & rear.

On top of the lightweight platform will be an aluminum panelled body, the overall weight reduction will be significant.

Launch Date and Pricing

GMC are racking up the test miles, but we’re still some way from seeing the 2019 GMC Sierra in the dealerships. We would expect to see the Sierra hitting the showrooms in the late part of 2018, about September at the earliest.

GMC have given no indication of pricing for the next gen truck, but the current model starts at $28,205, so if we add in a few dollars for upgrades and inflation, we think that $29,000 would be about right when they finally launch it.

Mild Hybrid and Small Block V8

We don’t yet know the choices for power, but we do know that the public are asking for diesel V6. It’s likely that GMC will offer a mild hybrid version, based on the eAssist, we also think that the small block V8 will still be an option, the most likely base option is the 3.6 liter DOHC V6 as used in the Colorado and Canyon. Transmission will be a 10-speed auto in the higher end models, while the base will have an the 8-speed 8L90E auto transmission.

2019 GMC Sierra Interior Features

Inside the cabin, we will have a better trim level, better insulation and a good range of tech, including HD touchscreen infotainment; the IntelliLink system with navigation, voice recognition and Bluetooth connectivity. There will also be great little touches like 5 USB ports fitted as standard.
