2018 Lexus LS is a new level of executive sedan

The current generation LS Lexus has been around for just over a decade, we’re on the fourth generation and Lexus have promised us something special for the 2018 Lexus LS 460 model.

Having said that, Lexus and Toyota have been very quiet about what to expect, details are minimal but as usual, there is a lot of speculation and rumor surrounding it. As far as we know, the styling and detailing will be based upon the concept car that Lexus proudly showed us in 2015.

Competition will be fierce; the LS 460 will be up against the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S Class and the Audi A8 – all proper heavy hitters in the premium luxury sedan market.

2018 Lexus LS Redesign and Changes

It seems that plenty has been happening in the styling department, but the only pictures available are of renderings of what other industry sources think the new model will look like. If they are right (and they aren’t often wrong), the new LS will look quite stunning; sporty, aggressive and luxurious all in one package – that’s a hard trick to pull off but Lexus look like they may just do that.

The next gen 2018 LS460 is likely to get the same number index, showing the engine capacity. Traditional 4.6 Toyota's V8 will be available as a standard.

However, Lexus might take a different path, like Mercedes and BMW - they digit indexes doesn't show the actual engine size since the early 2000s. Official 2018 Lexus LS 460 is not available yet, so we expect it closer to release date of the Lexus' 2018 LS 460 redesign.

2018 Lexus LS 460 F sport

Some claim it is likely that LS Lexus will get F sport designation, like the smaller models of the brand. It includes larger rims, body kit with front and rear spoiler, also a retuned suspension and exhaust system. However, to successful head-to-head competition with M760 from BMW, it has to have something bigger or at least more powerful under the hood.

2018 Lexus LS 500

There are some rumors that the intermediate modification of LS will get '500' designation, receive the turbocharged unit of 3.5L capacity. The number shows that such turbocharged engine have potential of 5-liter naturally-aspirated one. We believe that this scenario is highly unlikely.

The flagship modification is more likely to get a hybrid powertrain, just like the previous generation of the car. In order to cut expenses, Lexus engineers are likely to use the same V8 from LS460, but changed to Atkinson style. Large batteries with a more powerful electric motor will be used in order to provide excellent performance.

2018 Lexus LS Release date

As we’ve stated, nothing official has been said, but working on the usual product cycle times, we think that Lexus will unveil the new 2018 LS460 toward the later part of 2017.

2018 Lexus LS Price

Here’s where it gets interesting; despite plenty of new tech and sexy styling, we think that Lexus will reduce the price for the new LS460 – expect the base model to start in the $50,000 region.

2018 Lexus LS Engine

We don’t know exactly what powertrain options we’ll see, but we think it is safe to say that one of them will be a 4.6 liter V8 gas engine and another should be a hybrid; Lexus have been running a hybrid for longer than most of the other manufacturers, it makes sense for them to have one in their flagship sedan.

2018 Lexus LS interior

Inside the cabin will be a host of tech and smart styling details; super high grade leather, sculpted seats, full length center console, electronic instrument cluster, touchscreens – the renderings are somewhat reminiscent to sci-fi film vehicles.

2018 Lexus LS Spied

There are a new spy shots of 2018 Lexus LS prototype appeared, testing somewhere in the USA.

2018 Lexus LS Equipment

Expect to see the usual array of technology from park assist, cameras, lane guidance, adaptive cruise and collision prevention, as well as a possible semi-autonomous driving mode and the slightly surreal gesture control for the on-board systems.

The new 2018 LS460 looks to be something special, let’s just hope that Lexus can live up to our expectations.
