2018 KIA Optima Release Date Expecting Next Summer, Might Get a Total Redesign

2018 KIA Optima is a family mid-size sedan.

The Kia Optima has been with us since 2010, it has always been pretty popular, thanks mainly to its reasonable looks, good equipment and cheap price.

Actually, cheap is the wrong word; good value.

From what we’ve seen of the 2018 model, we like the look of it; it has a sporty look without being too aggressive. Sure, some of the details let it down a little – the plastic used in the cabin is the cheap, grainy type of plastic that most manufacturers have moved away from now, but on the whole, it’s a pretty decent car.

The main rivals for the car are Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion, Chevy Malibu, Hyundai Elantra.

2018 KIA Optima Release date

We think that Kia will debut the new 2018 Optima sometime in the summer of 2017, with sales starting later that year, around September to October.

2018 KIA Optima Price

Prices for the 2018 Optima will be in line with the competition, the base LX version should be around $22,500 and the fully loaded flagship should go all the way up to about $36,000, but that really is fully loaded.

2018 KIA Optima Redesign and changes

We think that Kia will keep two of the three existing motors; the 2.4 liter 4-cylinder 185 BHP / 178 lb/ft is set to stay, as is the 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo which makes 245 BHP and 260 lb/ft of torque, both will be coupled to a 6-speed auto transmission.

2018 KIA Optima Configurations

The new Optima will get a wide variety of configurations. More likely the trim levels will get the same naming: LX, EX, SX and SXL. We could expect that Top-end versions, such as SXL and GT will get nearly the same equipment list.

2018 KIA Optima SXL

The SXL will get a premium sound system, 360-degree view camera, autonomous emergency braking. It will also get automatic dynamic headlights, LED lights, 12-way power adjustable seats, heated front and rear seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and more.

2018 KIA Optima GT

GT version of Optima is the flagship edition of the car. The 2018 Optima GT won't be an exception. This modification is likely to get 19-inch rims of sporty design, special badges, turbocharged engine, etc.

2018 KIA Optima New Engine

New for this model though is a 1.6 liter turbo 4-cylinder which makes 178 BHP and 195 lb/ft of torque, this will run a 7-speed auto and should see economy figures around 28 MPG in the city and 39 MPG on the highway.

We aren’t quite sure why Kia have introduced this engine – it isn’t that much different from the 2.4. The 1.6 liter will only be available in the base LX, which should be about 300 lbs lighter than the next model up – the SX.

2018 KIA Optima Equipment

Depending on trim level or options boxes ticked, you can get quite a good selection of tech, this includes Bluetooth, reversing camera, keyless entry, leather upholstery, 3D navigation, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alerts, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, active HID headlamps, High Def touchscreen, push button start / stop, Wi-Fi, satellite radio and a panoramic roof. Pretty impressive.

It is also rumoured that the new 2018 model will have a slightly wider wheel base and be around 100 lbs lighter than the previous generation, thanks mainly to upgrades in body materials.
