2018 Buick Regal will get new fresh design, wagon version is possible

Given that it seems we’re pretty close to the launch, and that test cars have been out and about for some time, facts about the new 2018 Buick Regal are a little scarce, although of course, there is plenty of speculation!

Although some of these models (sharing the platform) have been a bit lukewarm regarding sales, the next Buick Regal will be the sixth generation, it has continually outperformed its counterparts in this respect.

The Regal shares the same platform as the Chevy Malibu, will take styling cues from the Buick LaCrosse and will also be on sale in New Zealand and Australia as the Holden Commodore; quite a mixed heritage. In Europe the car will be named Opel Insignia.

2018 Buick Regal Release Date

We think that we’ll see the Regal hitting the showrooms in the mid part of 2017, although some say it may be sooner.

2018 Buick Regal Price

Buick haven’t revealed any solid information regarding the prices for the new Buick Regal 2018, but estimates put the price in the region of $30,000 for the base model.

2018 Buick Regal Redesign and Changes

It’s expected that Buick will give the 2018 Regal a complete overhaul, both in terms of design and engineering, in particular, the GM E2XX platform will mean extra length, which will be mainly noticed in the rear where there will be more room, even with the bigger backseat; the rear doors will be lengthened to accommodate that. From what we can see from the spy-shots, it looks as though passengers may get added headroom as well, which has been a particular bug-bear in the current model.

Thanks to modern materials, the 6th generation Regal will also be lighter, significantly so we think – around 440lbs lighter according to sources. Not only will the reduced weight help with gas mileage, but it will make the car feel a bit livelier and increase the quality of the ride.

2018 Buick Regal interior will be also improved in terms of design and materials used.

2018 Buick Regal Wagon

There are some rumors regarding the 2018 Buick Regal station wagon, but we suppose it won't happen. The reason is simple - Buick is a premium brand, aimed at North American and Asian markets. In those parts of the world, wagons are not popular at all. So, there is just no expediency for 2018 Regal Wagon release. Some sources claim that it is still possible anyways.

2018 Buick Regal GS

This rumor is much stronger even than wagon. It's not wonder that people and websites like to speculate on this topic - some really wants to resurrect a famous Gran Sport brand. 2018 Regal GS is expecting since 2016, but there is still no clue. Rumors said that the car will get 2018 Buick Regal GS V6 Turbo designation, with AWD layout. However, it is unlikely even if it really happen. There is one fact - current and the next generation of Regal will be based on Opel's Insignia basis, it simply doesn't have enough room to fit a V6. Where is the 2018 Buick Regal GS made if it released? Likely in the US.

Buick Regal GNX 2018

Discussion above leads us to the next rumor - the extreme version of GS called GNX. That is also something about muscle car era, but again, without any further details. We think that even if GM decide to make hot version of Regal, they simply put a heavily turbocharged I4 unit from Insignia OPC. It is a cheap and logical decision. This could lead to lightweight 300+ HP mid-size sedan which is likely to get either GNX or GS designation.

2018 Buick Regal Coupe

This simply is not going to happen - you couldn't just throw away two rear doors from Regal and making a 2018 Buick Regal coupe. GM is need to complete rebuilt and redesign of the car. It is highly unlikely to happen, because coupes are very niche products.

2018 Buick Regal engine specs

Under the hood, we think that Buick will drop the current 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine in favour for a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine for all new 2018 Regal, increasing performance and again, improving economy. The power will be sent to the front-wheels as standard, but there will be all-wheel drive options on the list if you really feel it necessary, although we don’t know how much extra that option will be. 2018 Buick Regal turbo will be the only option.

Transmission is in the form of an 8-speed auto, no manual option will be available, but as is the same for any modern car now, autos are being seen as the way forward. 2018 Regal Buick is no exception.
